I dreamt of trying to get home AFTER I moved to this current house where I live, and I moved here in 2012. The recurring dream is usually like this: I am at a store buying something. This is rushed or obstructed. I can't find the items or the store is closing or I am taking so many items and taking too long, or I am circling in different aisles figuring out where I can find items or where to go in the store. There is a feeling of being lost or being troubled by something. It's not ominous but it gives discomfort and anxiety like I am invisibly plagued by a thing I cannot see but can feel. One time I recall I was trying to find a familiar bookstore in my old neighborhood, and it took me long to find it. Then I went inside and it was the store room, not the store. It's the basement with cobwebs and some goods. I had to climb the stairs to get to the store and I had to buy one specific pen. Sometimes I get to buy and pay for all the stuff, sometimes the dream ends here. After the store, I will be out on the street or at a station. I need to find some transport to get home cause I don't drive. It's usually my old home, but it can be my current home. I am always waiting for a train that won't arrive. I am worried that the area is rife with crimes and I am alone. I am waiting for the ojek (scooter) to arrive but it never does. I am in a vehicle but the car/scooter keeps going round and round not finding my house. So the test IS to find my way home, not to enter the house. I can't find my way home. Or, I can never reach home.
Dreams often serve as reflections of our subconscious thoughts, emotions, and experiences, and your recurring dream of attempting to find your way home can carry multiple layers of meaning. Here’s a detailed interpretation of your dream:
Searching for Something: The recurring theme of being in a store and struggling to find items suggests a search for something significant in your waking life. This could indicate a desire for clarity, fulfillment, or resolution regarding an aspect of your life that feels unfinished or chaotic. The act of shopping may symbolize your attempts to fulfill inner desires or needs that you haven't yet identified or achieved.
Feelings of Anxiety and Discomfort: The feeling of being lost or troubled in the store, along with the pressure of being rushed or obstructed, indicates underlying anxiety. This might reflect stress or indecision in real-life situations where you feel challenged or overwhelmed. The sensation that something invisible yet troubling is lurking could symbolize unacknowledged fears or worries.
Nostalgia and Return to the Past: Your attempt to find a familiar bookstore from your old neighborhood and the journey to a basement may signify a longing to revisit the past or reconnect with a previous phase of life. This could be a reflection of unresolved feelings or nostalgia for simpler times, or it could represent exploring deeper, perhaps hidden, aspects of your own self or history.
Struggle for Direction and Purpose: The quest to find transportation to get home, the ambiguity of waiting for a train or scooter that never arrives, and repeatedly being unable to reach your destination symbolize a struggle for direction and purpose in life. The fact that you are trying to return to your "old" home may imply a desire for familiarity and comfort, while the idea of also trying to reach your "current" home reflects a need to reconcile past and present identities or circumstances.
Sense of Insecurity: The fear of crime in the environment and being alone highlight insecurity and vulnerability in your personal or professional life. This unease might be tied to apprehensions about safety, stability, or support.
Journey and Transition: Being perpetually in transit without reaching home can be interpreted as being in a phase of transition. It might represent a period of personal growth, change, or uncertainty where the path to achieving personal goals or your ideal state feels elusive.
Your dream reflects a complex interplay of emotions and scenarios, which could mirror real-life challenges you are facing. Consider contemplating any current situations or emotions you may be experiencing that resonate with the themes of seeking, transition, and unresolved tension. Reflecting on these themes might provide you with insights and help you navigate your waking life challenges more effectively.
